We have exactly the same problem here in England, except that here it's Boston ivy which is the 'villain'. There's a local councillor and general busybody here who has spent months over the winter organising teams of volunteers to rip it all up, then crowing about it on Facebook.

He's turned a beautiful, wild, green and wooded dell into a barren wasteland, yet repeatedly posts proudly about how he's increased the biodiversity, yada yada yada. These people are insane.
