There’s been a lot of controversy lately about the upcoming Vegan Camp Out. For anyone who doesn’t know, the Vegan Camp Out is a four-day event in the UK. Billed as the world’s largest vegan camping festival, it features live music, workshops, a massive selection of vegan food stalls and talks by some of the best-loved vegan influencers, well-respected activists and successful business-people within the vegan movement.
I was watching a video recently in which a high-profile animal rights veteran was bemoaning the ‘fact’ that, out of the many thousands of people expected to attend the festival, very few will be involved in any kind of vegan outreach, education or activism.
He saw it as a huge missed opportunity. What could be a fantastic way for vegan advocates and animal rights activists to recharge their batteries, prevent burn-out, exchange ideas, discuss tactics and share inspiration was instead, he opined, simply a big consumerist lifestyle-fest which really achieved nothing except making lots of money for some vegan capitalists.
