This looks like a really interesting article and I've bookmarked it to read later. I just wanted to mention a quick tip, though, which you might find useful. On the thumbnail of your story's image where it's listed on the Medium homepage, the Chief's head is cropped out because the focus is in the centre of the image by default. But did you know you can change this focal point?
When you're editing a story, if you hold down the 'Alt' key and then left-click on the main part of the image (in this instance the chief's face) it will change the focal point and therefore how the image is displayed in the cropped-down, thumbnail version.
