This is fascinating. On the one hand, it gives me encouragement that sharing images of injustice and oppression really does make a difference in helping to shift social attitudes. On the other hand, I can't help thinking that today, when we are constantly bombarded by countless images, such images are a lot less potent and shocking than they would have been back then.

People can scroll past scores of images of the most horrendous suffering in a few minutes and it hardly touches them.
