This is an interesting example. We assume the car is red, and call it red, because that's the colour we see when we look at it. But we only see the colour red because the red part of the spectrum is reflected off the car. The car absorbs all other colours of light and rejects red light. So in that sense, it is perhaps more accurate to say the car is anything BUT red. Red is precisely what the car isn't.
