Zen Lessons From A Christian Mystic
If Truth is eternal and God is omnipresent, then the Divine cannot be restricted or confined to one single religion or spiritual path.
For much of my adult life I have considered myself Buddhist with an affinity for Zen Buddhism in particular. Yet, I am aware that what might be called the mystic experience, apprehension of the Divine, or enlightenment has been echoed from countless minds across widely different religions throughout the world.
Within Buddhism, Hinduism, Advaita Vedanta, Islam, Judaism, Christianity and more, extraordinary voices have echoed the same realisations throughout the millennia. Different words have been used to communicate the same Truth.
One of the most sublime messengers of that Truth was the Christian mystic, Meister Eckhart, a fourteenth century German Catholic whose words and teachings have touched countless hearts around the world.
Here, I wanted to simply share some quotes from Meister Eckhart, offered in love, peace and reverence, in the hope that some spirit of his words might echo down through the centuries, maybe to touch our own hearts and reawaken some sense of the immanence of God.
