It was like a scene from a horror movie. The decaying bodies of dead pigs hung among the blood and filth, the floor was covered in faeces and the emaciated, traumatised survivors wandered around the corpses, close to death themselves yet desperately clinging to life in this hellhole.

To survive, many had been forced to cannibalise their dead companions. Some were so starving that they had even eaten bricks, building rubble, tyres and the parts of old cars that were strewn around the site, in their bid to survive.

It was early in 2019 when the illegal slaughterhouse was discovered deep in the heart of Pembrokeshire, Wales. Under Government guidelines, those who had eaten the flesh of their brethren were classed as a disease risk and condemned to death.

A ‘destruction order’ was granted and the fate of 53 of these innocent souls, whose only crime was a desire to live, seemed sealed. After all that these poor pigs had been through…
