Not exactly... I'm saying that most people alive today already have that empathy for other humans and an opposition to slavery is taken as a basic assumption, yet they continue to enslave and oppress nonhumans, using exactly the same justifications that the slavers used. I suppose I'm coming at it from the opposite direction - by starting with readers' natural empathy towards other humans and then drawing parallels with our exploitation and oppression of animals, I hope to extend that empathy and sense of justice to other species.
