Is Greta Thunberg Missing A Vital Point?
Does Thunberg’s latest attack on world leaders encourage the passing of a huge collective buck?
Greta Thunberg made me think.
That’s what she does, I guess.
And she’s good at it.
But I’m not sure she made me think in the way she had intended.
Let me explain…
She recently wrote an article on Medium aimed at the world’s political leaders, calling them out for their ongoing inaction over the climate crisis, while they pay lip service to the cause and make all the right noises.
It was an excellent article, highly articulate (as always) and full of the kind of scathing yet restrained anger she has become well known for, in which she accuses political leaders of “pretending to take science seriously by saying “science is back” while holding climate summits without even inviting a single climate scientist as speaker. Pretending to wage war against fossil fuels while opening up brand new coal-mines, oilfields and pipelines. You don’t only continue business as usual as before, in many cases you are even speeding and scaling up the process.”
I think many of us resonate with these feelings that politicians aren’t doing nearly enough to fulfil…
