I used to live in a town where fennel grew readily in the streets. I used to pick it and use it in salads, or just munch on it as I walked. Then I realised the local Council were spraying it with weedkiller. Either it didn't enter their heads that people might be eating wild-growing 'weeds' or they were trying to kill off more than the fennel
