I think people are a lot more paranoid generally these days, and not just about having their photos taken.

I work as a telephone interviewer and it's incredible how many people pick up the phone and then just stay silent. When I answer with a cheery "Hello. Is that Joe Bloggs?" far too many of them reply along the lines of "It depends who's asking" or just with a gruff "Who's this?" and are very reluctant to admit who they are.

Everyone seems terrified of being scammed, although I've yet to work out how anyone could be scammed simply by confirming their name when they answer the phone. Isn't that the normal thing to do?

And that's not the half of it - when they do agree to give feedback, some of them will ask if we can send them a form to complete instead of answering questions over the phone. It amazes me how many people ask if we can send it through the post because they "don't trust emails." As if a piece of paper wrapped in another piece of paper and delivered by hand by a series of strangers is somehow more secure than end-to-end digital encryption.
