How To Go Vegan
What’s The Best Way To Go — And Stay — Vegan?
There is quite a bit of debate about what is the best method to go vegan in a way which will not only make the change easier for you but also ensure that you stay vegan in the long-term.
Should you simply cut out all animal products in one fell swoop?
Or start by going vegetarian first and transition gradually?
Should you spend time preparing and planning in detail?
Or jump right in?
Opinions vary and what works for one person might not work for another.
When I first decided to go vegan at fifteen years of age, I went vegetarian first for a short time because it seemed less daunting. Once I’d got used to that, I then went fully vegan. In those days I didn’t know any other vegans personally and it seemed like a huge lifestyle change.
In contrast, a friend of mine went from meat-eater to vegan almost instantaneously. In his twenties, he saw a film about animal abuse and decided there and then he wanted no more part in it. He went straight home and threw out every animal product in his kitchen and remained vegan ever since.
Both ways worked — we both remained passionate vegans and animal rights activists.
