George Monbiot Needs to Change His Anthro-Supremacist Language

It’s Not ‘Livestock Farming’ — It’s Slavery

There was a piece in yesterday’s Guardian by George Monbiot entitled ‘There’s one big subject our leaders at Cop27 won’t touch: livestock farming’ which raised some pretty damning issues regarding government complicity in the climate crisis.

Monbiot talked about the massive roles played by both fossil fuels and the farming of animals in the current climate emergency. His opening paragraph stated:

‘There are just two actions needed to prevent catastrophic climate breakdown: leave fossil fuels in the ground and stop farming animals. But, thanks to the power of the two industries, both aims are officially unmentionable. Neither of them has featured in any of the declarations from the 26 climate summits concluded so far.’

I have to admit that Monbiot does a lot of work to raise awareness about climate issues, including the massive negative impact which animal farming has on the global environment. He pulls no punches when it comes to making it abundantly clear that if we are to stand any chance at all of averting complete climate disaster, we must stop farming animals.

While it’s refreshing to hear someone with a relatively high profile within the mainstream media…
