Four Short Lines That Hit Like a Punch in the Face
One of the most powerful messages I ever read
It takes a lot to shock people these days.
Constantly scrolling through social media as we all are, we are continually being exposed to images that once would have stopped us dead in our tracks.
Everyone is clamouring for our attention and all too often it seems the only way to do this is to be more shocking than the next guy.
Sometimes it seems that every few minutes we are seeing photos that should send us reeling in stunned disbelief.
Violence.
Bloodshed.
Death.
Yet we have become so accustomed to such images, and to the traumatic news stories that accompany them, it seems sometimes they hardly register.
We’ve become so desensitised to images of disaster and suffering that they rarely seem to make an impression, much less stay with us beyond the next meme or video that catches our attention.
Sometimes, I think we’re in danger of becoming dead to the world.
As much as we love the drama, it seems we are becoming largely immune to the suffering of others.
