Fantastic descriptive imagery and sense of tension and intrigue kept me reading til the end.

The only bit that rankled was how they managed to temporarily lose the guards by hiding in the stable. Why would the guards hurry on by when the donkeys inside were braying loudly?

Apart from that, loved the story :)
