Answering common questions about veganism
One of the most common questions about veganism that gets asked is “Can vegans eat eggs?”
After all, people reason that most eggs are infertile anyway, so they’re never going to hatch. There’s no baby chick inside, so there’s no killing involved. And besides, aren’t they just waste products that chickens lay regardless of whether we choose to eat them or not?
In this article I want to address these common questions about why vegans do not eat eggs, but first, I think it’s helpful to start with the definition of veganism so we’re all on the same page.
Definition of veganism
According to The Vegan Society, the definitive source of the meaning of the term, “Veganism is a philosophy and way of living which seeks to exclude — as far as is possible and practicable — all forms of exploitation of, and cruelty to, animals for food, clothing or any other purpose; and by extension, promotes the development and use of animal-free alternatives for the benefit of animals, humans and the environment. In dietary terms it denotes the practice of dispensing with all products derived wholly or partly from animals.”
