Are LED Lights Killing Us All?
This is not conspiracy theory — the harm they are causing is already well-documented
I’ve spoken before about how I cycle everywhere but I’ve never written about one of the biggest banes of my life as a cyclist… LED headlights on cars.
This problem has been getting steadily worse for years as headlights on cars get steadily brighter and brighter, seemingly without limit.
I’m assuming that most drivers with LED headlights don’t realise just how bright they are. It’s either that or they simply don’t care about anyone else on the road.
When cycling at night it seems as if every other car now has dazzlingly bright LED headlights. When they’re approaching head-on on the other side of the road, or adjacent to you if you’re on a cycle path, it’s impossible to see what’s in front of you on the road or pavement.
To make matters worse many of these drivers have a habit of actually switching to full-beam on approach. They see someone on a bike up ahead and think “Oh, there’s an interesting phenomenon, better switch to full beams to have a closer look!”
They seem blissfully unaware that they are dazzling the cyclist and putting them at risk of a potentially fatal crash.
