Apparently so. And this 'permission' to eat animals is what so many Christians use in an attempt to justify eating animals today.

Yet there is a big difference between eating animals through necessity and choosing to eat them when you have a glut of other options available, as we do today in the Western world.

I seem to recall stories in the bible where God allowed the killing of other humans, too, yet nobody uses this as a justification for murder on a regular basis.

As it was in the beginning, so shall it be in the end. There are no slaughterhouses in Heaven.
